A Word Aside 3 - What's Next?
First of all, it’s
important to realise that what I plan to do and what I actually do
are usually two very different things. It isn’t just
because I take longer about doing things than I should and
occasionally give up; I’m also subject to bouts of whimsy, which
resolve themselves into impromptu stories I didn’t know I was going
to make.
I
do, however, have a rough game plan. OJ stories are pretty much front
and centre at the moment; I intend to devote roughly equal time to
both Suguriverse and QPverse stories, although the characters might
mix around a little. For Suguriverse stories, I’d like to get some
more Sugihime done, then maybe mess around with some of the
characters I haven’t looked at yet – Saki, for example. I also
might do some AU stuff with Sora not having fallen asleep after the
war, getting to know characters from her own time. In terms of the
QPverse, I’d like to do a Yuki story, and maybe a first person QP
or Aru story since they’re mostly been third person before.
Outside
of OJ stories, I’m also working on FFVII stories every so often.
Usually I try to work on one in between finish an OJ story and
starting the next; I have one in particular that I’d like to finish
sooner or later, at which point I’ll probably edit it up and then
import it to the blog as a definitive version. (I may do that for
other ‘finished’ stories in my library, although that’s
a very small list and I may be too lazy to do that).
I
would, eventually, like to write some Touhou stories, but I’ve
fallen out of touch with that series. It has a lot to explore, but
it’s also been a long time since I read a touhou doujin or played a
mainline Touhou game. If I did make up my mind to write a touhou
story, it would probably be a multi-chapter story exploring Gensokyo
and meeting the residents, through the eyes of a fan-character.
(Usually I dislike making fan characters, but for something like an
exploration story, where the aim is to capture some of the wonder of
being in the setting and meeting the characters, it should be fine).
What
else? Well, I’ll probably take down the attempt at an LP for
Pokemon Reborn. I haven’t opened that game in maybe four months,
and it was fairly work-heavy when I was doing it. Pokemon games have
a lot of analysis to delve into, which is fine except for the fact
that I’m not great at Pokemon. I would like to do a playthrough of
some game or another, but that game was the wrong one to try it with,
at the wrong time.
One
thing I might do is reaction pieces to whatever anime I’m watching
at the time. I don’t really like doing reviews, as I’ve
mentioned, so the only way I could do opinion pieces is to do them in
the moment, episode by episode. It
may be a fun diversion. I might also start a reading list page, to
archive what books I finish as time trickles by; I read a decent
amount in my own time, so it wouldn’t be a completely barren
exercise.
Last
but not least, there’s always the chance that I might do an
original story specifically for the blog. Usually I don’t like
posting original fiction, but I’ll have tot get comfortable with it
at some point, and it’ll be fun to create and design characters and
settings (which you don’t, by and large, get to do very much with
fanfics). That won’t be for a while, though. I might do the
occasional character or setting design post, just walking through my
thoughts as I’m putting things into place.
That
should be all for now. Next time… Next time I guess I’ll do
something I haven’t decided on yet? I’m subject to fits of
whimsy, after all.
